Who handles your data
The data controller is Linda Bourne, who publishes under the pen name Vienna Bourne. For any question about your data, write to [email protected].
What we collect and why
- Newsletter. If you sign up we collect your email address to send you sneak peeks, news and event dates. Your subscription is confirmed with a second email (double opt-in). Legal basis: your consent. We keep your address until you unsubscribe, which you can do at any time from the link in every email. The newsletter is run by Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France), which processes the data on our behalf.
- Paperback pre-orders. Pre-orders go through a Google Forms form (Google Ireland Ltd). We collect what we need to fulfil the order: name, contact details, shipping address, an optional dedication and your chosen payment method. Legal basis: carrying out the order you ask for. We keep the data for as long as delivery and legal obligations require. Payments go through PayPal or Satispay: only they see your payment details, we don’t.
- Emails you send us. We use the details you send only to reply to you.
- Browsing the site. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., which logs technical data such as your IP address to run and protect the site. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure website.
We don’t sell or share your data with anyone, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Cookies
This site uses no profiling, advertising or analytics cookies, which is why you don’t see a cookie banner.
To see how many people visit the site and which pages they read, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It uses no cookies, stores nothing on your device and doesn’t follow you across other sites: we only see aggregate numbers (page views, country, device type, referring site), with no way to identify you.
The site hides a few easter eggs. To remember the ones you have already found, it saves a small list only in your browser (local storage): it contains no personal data, is never sent to us or anyone else, and you can delete it at any time by clearing the site’s data in your browser.
If you find all the easter eggs, you can leave us your email to receive a bonus chapter. Your email then reaches us at [email protected] through FormSubmit (formsubmit.co), a service that forwards form submissions by email. We only use it to send you the bonus chapter, we don’t add you to the newsletter, and you can ask us to delete it at any time by writing to us.
- Fonts are hosted on the site itself, with no external services.
- The Instagram feed in the Social section is shown through Behold, which states that it sets no cookies and collects no visitor data. Post images are served from Behold’s servers.
- Links to Amazon, Instagram, TikTok, Google Forms, PayPal and Satispay take you to external sites, where their own privacy and cookie rules apply.
Transfers outside the European Union
Some providers (Cloudflare, Google) may also process data in the United States. These transfers rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or on standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to access, correct or delete your data, restrict or object to its use, or receive it in a portable format, and you can withdraw your consent to the newsletter. Just write to [email protected]. If you believe your data isn’t being handled properly, you can lodge a complaint with your data protection authority; in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
